Ryan Gosling is set to receive Santa Barbara Film Festival's Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film. Gosling, known for his roles in films like Half Nelson and La La Land, will be the 16th recipient of this prestigious award. The award celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to cinema, either in front of or behind the camera. Festival executive director Roger Durling praised Gosling's talent and highlighted his standout performance in Greta Gerwig's Barbie.
Not only has Gosling been recognized for his acting prowess with nominations from BAFTA and the Screen Actors Guild, but he has also won various awards, including a Film Independent Spirit award and a National Board Review award. Previous winners of this honor include Martin Scorsese, Dame Judi Dench, and Quentin Tarantino. The award ceremony will take place on January 13, 2024, at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara as part of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The festival, which will run from February 7 to February 17, will include screenings, filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, and celebrity tributes.
