Funches said in legal docs that Halsey violated the law in terminating her employment after she had taken time off after she had an emergency medical procedure.
Funches said she was hired last year by the singer and their company Halsey Music for the position of a 'live-in personal attendant for her newborn child' after Halsey and boyfriend Alev Aydin welcomed their son Ender in July 2021.
Funches told the court that she was paid every other week based on an annual salary, with job duties including 'caring for the child, preparing meals, cleaning, laundry, cleaning breast pump materials, organizing the nursery, and running errands as needed.'

Funches said she had 'worked around the clock' on multiple days with 'little to no ... rest' amid her work for the Nightmare artist.
The nanny said in court docs that when she brought up the lack of overtime compensation with her employers, she was paid $5,000 without any explanation as to what the money was earmarked to compensate her.
Funches said she texted the Bad at Love artist this past March 16 that she had to miss multiple days as she had to 'undergo a medical procedure;' and that 'a few days later,' Halsey fired her from the job.
Funches told the court that she believed the termination was retaliatory over her previous mentioning of overtime compensation; and that Halsey had violated labor laws in firing her over her missed days of work due to having a medical procedure.

The legal team for Funches said that Halsey fired the nanny in a 'deliberate, cold, callous, fraudulent, and intentional manner in order to injure and damage [Funches] with a conscious disregard of her rights.'
They added that 'as a direct and proximate cause of the aforementioned violations, [Funches] has suffered, and continues to suffer, substantial losses related to the use and enjoyment of such wages and lost interest in such wages.'
Funches has also filed a complaint with the California Department of Fair Employment & Housing alleging discrimination in the situation.
A rep for Halsey later responded to the claims telling on Thursday: 'These allegations are baseless. This individual’s employment was recently terminated in response to specific incidents in which Halsey’s infant was left unsupervised in an unsafe location while under the nanny’s care, and it was discovered the nanny was intoxicated while the child was in her care.
'Furthermore, at no time during this individual’s term of employment with Halsey were any complaints even raised. Consequently, while Halsey is both saddened and disappointed by this turn of events, they feel it is important to refute these allegations publicly, as they take ableism and ethical working conditions very seriously.'
