The co-creator of 'The Big Bang Theory', Chuck Lorre, has expressed regret for his initial portrayal of the character Penny, first introduced as the ditzy, overly sexualised neighbour of Sheldon and Leonard. Played by Kaley Cuoco, Penny was a mainstay until the show's conclusion, enduring a brand of humor seen as problematic in early seasons. However, over time, the character got layered and intelligent, a makeover that partly can be attributed to Cuoco's greater involvement in her character development. Yet, Lorre admitted this evolution of the character was belated, recognising his failure to fully utilise Cuoco's capabilities from the start. Despite these improvements, the show's finale could not completely salvage Penny's portrayal. Contradicting her adamant stand against pregnancy, the writers concluded her arc with an inexplicable pregnancy. Cuoco also voiced disagreement with this narrative decision. Despite continued appeal for a reunion, a revival is not in sight. If it does happen, fans hope that it includes a justified conclusion to Penny's story for a much-needed redemption.
