A man wakes in the village of Yamairra with no memory of who he is, his face oddly covered by a strange mask and his body already marked by injury. Aeru, a young apprentice healer, and her grandmother, the village chief, take him in. To help him recover, the chief gives him her deceased son’s clothes, and the moment he wears them, he begins to resemble the man the village once knew. That resemblance is not just physical; it becomes the first thread tying him to a place he does not yet understand.
