Full House, the famous sitcom, began 36 years ago with the tragic backstory of Danny Tanner being widowed after a drunk driver killed his wife. Despite this painful start, not much weight was given to the loss in the initial episodes. Another overlooked aspect is the lack of diversity in the cast as there are minimal characters of colour or from the LGBTQ+ community, quite contrary to San Francisco's varied demographic. Kimmy Gibbler, the peculiar neighbour, is humorously ridiculed, which seems offensive considering her troubled home environment. Further, the sitcom included light-hearted commentaries on mental disorders, like Danny Tanner's cleanliness obsession, insinuating OCD. The laugh track can be intrusive, marring the watching experience. Unexpectedly, the series ended with Michelle's saddening amnesia narrative which was far too grave for a sitcom format. Moreover, the odd layout of the Tanner's house and bizarre child bride storylines stays unsettling. Lastly, the show staged dangerous situations for characters as comic relief without discerning its actual implications.
